Directions to Our Practice
If you’ve never been to our practice before, here are two easy routes you could take, using the Nepean Centrepointe Library as a reference point:
- Head northwest on Centrepoint Dr, then turn left onto Baseline Rd. Turn left onto Robertson Rd. Turn left into the FreshCo parking lot, and you’ll find us among the shops on the right, next to the Indian restaurant.
- If Robertson Rd has terrible traffic, you could take ON-417, exit left onto Moodie Dr, and turn right onto Robertson Rd much closer to our turn.
How Much Local History Do You Know?
Nepean Township, initially recognized as Township D, was established in 1792, encompassing what today forms the western segment of central Ottawa, west of the Rideau River. The area’s first settler, Jehiel Collins from Vermont, is credited with founding the area that would later evolve into Bytown, and subsequently, Ottawa. Nepean was officially incorporated as a city on November 24, 1978.
Throughout its history, Nepean’s geographic boundaries have seen substantial changes; the original town hall once resided in Westboro until it was annexed by Ottawa in 1950, after which the civic center of Nepean shifted to the community of Bells Corners. During the 1950s and 1960s, Nepean began to develop its urban areas, expanding into previously rural regions such as Centrepointe in the east and Barrhaven in the south.
The year 1853 marked a significant advancement for Nepean with the realization of the need for a community library. Established through a bylaw and funded by a tax levy, the library faced a devastating setback in 1870 when a major fire destroyed several schoolhouses that stored its books, leading to the library’s discontinuation for the next eighty years.
The resurrection of the library was championed by Ruth E. Dickinson, who moved to Nepean from Calgary in 1951 and became a pivotal figure in its redevelopment. The Nepean Public Library, initially known as the City View Public Library, officially opened its doors on March 1, 1957, and was renamed the Nepean Township Public Library on December 27, 1962, cementing its role as a key institution in the community.
